かつて「An Nam」と呼ばれたベトナムは、明朝時代、中国によって支配され、19世紀半ばにはフランスによって植民地とされた。そのためベトナムには、東洋とフランスのコロニアル調の美がブレンドされた“インドシナスタイル”が生まれた。今回のプロジェクトでは、メトロポリタンシティーであるここ香港に、ノスタルジックなベトナムを再現しようと試みた。
フランス植民地支配時代のベトナムの空気感を感じられるよう、ターコイズをアクセントカラーとし、セラミックタイルの床、アンティークの家具や装飾を用いている。ダークブラウンの中華風パネルと格子がターコイズカラーの壁をつなぎ合わせ、アンティーク調のフローリング、テーブルランプとともに入り口でゲストを迎える。細長い通路には、伝統的なパターンのセラミックタイルが敷き詰められ、ゲストをフランス領のインドシナというエキゾチックな世界へと誘う。
通路の左側には二つのVIPルームがあり、可動式パネルで空間をつなぐことによって、1室として使うこともできる。各部屋を構成する、落ち着いた色味の木材フロア、ターコイズカラーの壁、木製の円卓、温かみのある灰色のファブリックのイス、そしてベトナムならではのシーリングファンが、新鮮で親密な環境を作り出している。通路を挟んだ右側には、ベルベットのベンチ席に格子造りのパーティションで仕切られたバンケットがあり、プライベートな空間を演出。壁に沿って設置された連続するフレンチルーバー、格子窓、そしてアンティークミラーによって、フレンチとアジアンが混在し、洗練さとともに植民地時代の輝きが空間に再構築されている。
通路の先にはメインダイニングエリアがあり、ここはショッピングモールに見られるような球状のレイアウトとなっている。このメインエリアへと続く通路に敷き詰められた伝統的パターンのタイルが、落ち着いた色味のダイニングテーブル、グレーの張り地のイスと共鳴する一方で、ベトナム様式のペインティングアート、アンティーク家具やシルクのペンダント照明は、フランスのロマンチックな香りを醸し出している。食事の後、バルコニーに出て都市の街並みを眺めながらドリンクを楽しむこともできる。また、吹き抜けに近いダイニングの一角には、アウトドアを模した空間があり、ターコイズカラーのフレンチルーバーが設置されている。V字パターンの木の床、藤のダイニングテーブル、クッションがアクアブルーの藤のイス、そしてシルクのペンダント照明で飾られた空間が、インドシナの優雅で豪華な雰囲気を浮かび上がらせる。
ベトナムのコロニアル調の本質と美意識を、コンテンポラリーなタッチで表現したAn Namは、過ぎ去った時の美とロマンスに形を与え、本格派のベトナム料理の体験を静かで優雅な環境の中で提供している。（スティーブ・リョン）

Vietnam, formerly called “An Nam” and next to China border, was once ruled by Chinese in Ming Dynasty and colonized by France in the mid-19th Century, featuring an Indochine style with a blend of oriental and French colonial beauty. The designer recaptures the nostalgic Vietnam with its signature turquoise accent color, ceramic tiled floor, antique furniture and decorations, evoking a delicate atmosphere of the era of French colony at the Vietnamese restaurant in this metropolitan city.
A turquoise feature wall pieced up by dark brown Chinese panels and grilles offsets the antique-like flooring and table lamps, greeting the guests at the reception. The elongated hallway paved with traditional patterned ceramic tiles leads guests to the exotic world of French Indochina.
Two VIP rooms, which can be flexibly combined by movable panels, sit on the left of the hallway. Dark wooden floor, turquoise feature wall, round wooden dining table, warm-grey fabric dining chairs and Vietnamese pendant fan in each room bring in a fresh and intimate environment. On the right of the hallway is the banquette seating area with Chinese latticed partitions on the velvet bench to deploy private space. A row of French louvers, window grilles and antique mirrors are trimmed along the wall for the French and Asian refinement, recreating splendors of the magnificent colonial spirit.
Traversing the hallway comes to the main dining area pursuing the spherical layout of the shopping mall. The traditional patterned tiled floor of the hallway goes all the way to this area, echoing with dark dining tables and fabric dining chairs in grey, while a combination of Vietnamese-style aesthetic paintings, antique furniture and silk lantern pendants exude a sense of French romantic aroma. Guests can enjoy a drink after meal at the balcony with the dazzling lights of city landscape. On the other side of the main dining area, a mimicking outdoor space near the atrium of the mall is partitioned by turquoise French louver panels. Adorned with V-patterned wooden floor, dark rattan dining tables, aqua blue cushioned rattan chairs and silk lantern pendants, the space evokes the atmosphere of glamour and elegance of Indochine flairs under the shed of light.
The designer captures the essence and aesthetics of Vietnamese colonized style with a contemporary touch. An Nam embodies the beauty and romance of times passed, providing a tranquil and graceful environment for an authentic Vietnamese dining experience. (Steve Leung)
